Love was in the air as universities pulled out the stops to celebrate the most romantic day of the year – Saint Valentine’s Day. We’ve collated a few of our favourite ways universities marked the festive occasion
Who says you need a significant other to celebrate Valentine’s Day? Not the University of Manchester, that’s who. For them, Valentine’s Day marked the perfect opportunity for current students to share the reasons why they love the vibrant city of Manchester. If you want your students raving about the wild nightlife, cheap drinks and the trendy urban scene of your university town, we’d advise taking a leaf out of the University of Manchester’s book. The video, which was shared on their Facebook feed, amassed over 8,000 views – many of them prospective students, we hope?
Other universities opted for more traditional take on the day’s celebrations. For Anglia Ruskin, South Wales and Bristol, Valentine’s Day marked the perfect occasion to share the endearing (and in some cases, comedic) love stories of their alumni whose love has stood the test of time from campus to cradle. The versatility of this campaign speaks for itself – the opportunity to share original content on social media while reconnecting with forgotten alumni.
Lastly, what social media campaign is complete without a few selfies? For London Met, Valentine’s Day provided an excuse to launch its very own selfie campaign. Their catchy Valentine’s hashtag, #LoveLondonMet, coupled with giant, heart selfie frames, were replicated across Instagram as students competed to gain the most likes. Narcissism and Valentine’s Day seem like an unlikely match but it seems that London Met have pulled this one off.
