Launching our pro bono PR scheme

GKP is looking for 12 state schools who would like to receive free PR support in the next twelve months.  Schools will be chosen at random through a Twitter prize draw.

To have a chance of being the first school that we work with you’ll need your head or deputy head to retweet this message.

I want to #win a free day of #PR advice for my #school with the former TES editor #ProBonoGKPComms #June

Read on for more information and full T&Cs.

Education PR

Before we launched our business back in September 2014 the partners often talked about what they wanted the company to achieve and to stand for.  Of course all the usual start-up aims were mentioned - pay the bills, deliver great work, have happy clients and staff, etc., etc.

The other ambition that we committed to was to try to help schools that needed advice but couldn’t necessarily afford to pay for it.  We’ve always done that in an ad hoc way but have now decided that we want to formalise this offer.

So from next month we are going to work with 12 state schools across the year on a pro-bono basis. We’ll work with one school each month, chosen at random, and provide them with a full day (8 hours’ worth) of free PR consultancy.  In a time when school budgets are decreasing in real terms and anything non-essential is being cut our pro-bono offer feels, to us at least, more important than ever.

We want to leave it up to schools to decide how they use our time.  Perhaps they’ll want some advice on parent communications, or views on how to best handle a situation that has the potential to become an unfavourable national news story, or maybe it will be something more positive, for example celebrating a good set of exam results and the pupils that will be heading off to university.

Education PR

We’ll chose a different school to work with each month.  It might be a primary or a secondary, a free school, an individual school that’s part of a MAT, a special needs school, or a grammar.  It will need to be operating in either England, Wales or Northern Ireland.

How will we choose the schools?  Well, that’s where Twitter will play its part.  If a school wants to be considered for the monthly comms support we’re offering they’ll need to have their head teacher or a deputy head retweet a specific GKP message on their own twitter page.  All heads / deputy heads that retweet will automatically be entered into the monthly draw. Heads and deputy heads can enter the draw every month if they choose to.

To have a chance of being the first school that we work with through this scheme we’d like participating heads and deputies to tweet this message:

All the legal stuff you need to read is at the end of this post.  We’ve tried to keep everything as simple as possible.  At the end of the day this is about delivering on one our initial start-up ambitions, helping some schools that need comms advice but can’t afford to pay for it.

Good luck.
