While some university’s social accounts seemed to sink into quiet hibernation over the festive period, others grabbed the opportunity to post content full of good cheer.
It’s not difficult to find positive material to post around the holiday time, such as this merry video of Loughborough in the snow, or Birmingham’s video sharing how staff and students celebrate Christmas around the world.
Exeter got creative with an aesthetic advent calendar style countdown on their Instagram, showing off the best bits of the university and town, dazzled in winter sun.
Meanwhile Leeds made use of the relaxed period between Christmas and New Year to share via their Facebook flashbacks of their top ten most popular stories from throughout the year. A smart opportunity to re-boast their greatest achievements and events!
Cambridge took to online publishing platform Medium to post an interview with a choral scholar at King’s College.
But our most creative Christmas champ goes to Edinburgh, who demonstrated their graphic design prowess with ‘Colour My Edinburgh’, digital Christmas scenes of the university which can be coloured in online, providing a soothing break from the mayhem. We know the season’s finished now, but go on, we know you want to give it a go…
So our message is, even if your staff are setting their out-of-offices and driving home for Christmas, take the time before they go to schedule some posts across your social platforms for the period. Don’t neglect the opportunity to send your best season’s greetings to students, staff and supporters as well as maximising the chance to celebrate and reflect upon another great year for your institution.
Christmas is just 350 days away now so time to get planning :-)
